Despite being outshot by Patrick Roy's Quebec Remparts by a margin
of 47-29, the Peterborough Petes were victorious in the opening game
of the 2006 MasterCard Memorial Cup, being held in Moncton.
Goaltender David Shantz of the Petes was amazing making 45 saves in
front of a crowd of 6,662.
Bonavista native Daniel Ryder plays for Peterborough, and although
he was held off of the score sheet last night, he is a key part of
the OHL champion Petes. Ryder, with his 15 goals and 16
assists, was named the OHL playoff MVP.
Ryder and the Petes play their next game on Monday, May 22nd against
the host team (and QMJHL Champions), Moncton Wildcats. The
game can be seen on Rogers Sportsnet.
