Newfoundland and Labrador Sports Weekly
On May 19th, the provincial hotbed of Soccer (the Burin Peninsula)
woke up for another season. The Under-14(U-14) boys "A" team
held tryouts at the Grand Bank Soccer field
Members of this team will be comprised of boys under the age of 14,
from the various communities on the Burin Peninsula (Grand Bank,
Burin, Marystown, St.Lawrence, Lawn etc...). Those in charge
of the team are NLSA hall of famer, Newman Bartlett of Grand Bank,
Randy Douglas of Grand Bank, and Dr. Paul Slaney for St. Lawrence.
The U-14A team will be competing in their provincial tournament on
August 4-6 in Mt. Pearl.
The Burin Peninsula Soccer Association will be beginning their
summer programs and leagues next month, and will be covered
extensively on this website. The provincial Challenge Cup
tournament will begin in early June, and will have three Burin
Peninsula representatives this year. Defending Champs, St.
Lawrence Laurentians, Marystown United, and a Burin Eagles team that
could be called the Burin "Phoenix" as they have seemingly rose from
the ashes to once again enter a team of young hopefuls. The
Challenge Cup will also be covered in great detail on our website.
